ICC T20 World Cup 2012 Warm-Up Matches Schedule

The International Cricket Council has announced the schedules and fixtures of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2012 warm-up matches on September 10, 2012. The T20 World Cup will be played in Sri Lanka from September 17, 2012. Sri Lanka clash with Zimbabwe in the opening game.

ESPN will broadcast the matches in India on Start Cricket TV channel. Doordarshan will also telecast matches involving India along with the semi-finals and final. Defending champion England will play warm-up matches gainst Australia and Pakistan on September 17 and 19 respectively.

India will begin their campaign with a warm-up match against hosts Sri Lanka on September 15 and will play Pakistan on September 17. Sri Lanka will play their second warm-up match against the West Indies on September 13, 2012.

Australia fall below Ireland in ICC T20 rankings

Australia captain George Bailey was left scratching his head as to how his side was now ranked below Ireland in the Twenty20 rankings after their super over defeat in the second Twenty20 international against Pakistan on Friday.

 

Australia and Pakistan were locked at 151 after 40 overs before the Pakistanis took the match in a super over finish at Dubai Stadium, to clinch the three-match series 2-0. The third match will be played here on Monday. Bailey, however, questioned the rankings system in which minnows Ireland are a place above them.

 

"That does not look good but I am still not sure how the rankings work," said Bailey of the Twenty20 rankings introduced last year and currently topped by South Africa. "So Ireland goes past us when we haven't played Ireland in a T20. If Ireland is a better side than us then I guess it will show in a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka," said Bailey of the World Twenty20 championship starting on September 18.

Australia are in Group B of the 12-team competition and open their campaign against Ireland in Colombo on September 19. Australia have won only four of their last 13 matches but faced strong opponents in South Africa, Pakistan, England, India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

Ireland, associate members of the International Cricket Council, have won eight of their last 11 but all of them against minor nations. Despite the defeat and the descent in the rankings, Bailey said he took several positives from it. "I am really pleased that we performed much closer to what I think we are capable of. The guys will take a lot of confidence out of this individually and as a team. But to be so close and to lose raises a lot of questions in the head," said Bailey.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez, whose team jumped to fourth from sixth in the Twenty20 rankings, said victory will give his team more confidence. "It's a great sign as captain. I am happy in the way players are responding to me as captain. Everyone is confident and this is a great sign for the team ahead of the World Twenty20," said Hafeez. "As captain I feel very proud of my team and I hope from here on they will continue also in the mega event," said Hafeez of the World Twenty20 in which Pakistan are in Group D along with New Zealand and Bangladesh.

Hafeez said allrounder Shahid Afridi was doubtful for the third and final match after injuring his left hand during Pakistan's 2-1 defeat in the preceding one-day series. Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal also hurt his shoulder on Friday but will be fit for Monday's final match, said Hafeez.

Vettori Back Into Action For ICC World T20

 Daniel Vettori has been included in the squad for the two T20 Internationals in India and the World T20, having not played a T20I in more than two years. Vettori had earlier been ruled out of the upcoming Test series in India after failing to recover from a groin strain he suffered during the West Indies tour.

“We are thrilled to have Daniel Vettori back in the fold. He brings a huge amount of experience and knowledge of conditions in the sub-continent,” said Kim Littlejohn, New Zealand’s National Selection Manager.
 

The selectors left out Andrew Ellis, Tom Latham and Dean Brownlie after they were involved in the T20Is in the recently concluded series against the West Indies. James Franklin, who was recalled to the Test squad for the India series, also found a place in the T20I squad. Franklin has been playing T20 cricket for Essex in the county competition.

“The squad has a good balance for Twenty20 cricket with explosive batmen and a good mix of pace and spin bowlers,” said Littlejohn. “If they play to their ability they will be a very exciting and extremely competitive team in India and at the ICC World Twenty20.”

The Twenty20 series against India begins with the first match in Vishakhapatnam on September 8 and the second fixture is in Chennai on September 11.

In the ICC World T20, New Zealand are placed in Group D alongside Pakistan and Bangladesh, with their first pool match against Pakistan on September 21 before they meet Bangladesh on September 23.

Fantastic Season For All Cric Lovers

T20 World Cup 2012 Sri Lanka will be the fourth ICC World T20 Competition, ICC T20 World Cup 2012 is an international Twenty20 Cricket tournament that will be held in between September 18 and October 7, 2012. The schedule has been posted by ICC. The fixture of World Twenty20 would be revealed once, Qualifier round of ICC World Twenty20 2012 gets over. Tournament is likely to be mix of Robin Round and Knockout. This will be the first T20 cricket World Cup tournament held in an Asian country, the last three being held in South Africa, England and the West Indies respectively.

 The format will see four groups of three in a preliminary round. India and England are in the same group and will be joined by one of the Associate or Affiliate teams that qualify. The other qualifying team will be in a group with West Indies and Australia. Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh are the other two groups. The first T20 cricket World Cup was hosted by South Africa in 2007, where India beat Pakistan in a thriller to become Twenty20 champions. Pakistan, the losing finalists in t20 world cup cricket 2007, defeated Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2009 tournament to become World t20 Champions, held in England. England became the third World Twenty20 champions by beating Australia in the West Indies. The ICC World Twenty20 2014 is to be held in Bangladesh.

  Apart from the ten test cricket playing nations, there will be a further two associate/affiliate teams who would qualify from the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier to be staged in the United Arab Emirates in 2012. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. The Super Eight will consist of two groups. The top two teams from the two Super Eight groups would play the semi-finals, and the semi-final winners would contest the final, to be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium. The winner of this final shall be crowned world champions in Twenty20 cricket. England are the defending champions, having won the 2010 edition in the West Indies.
