Ultimate Friendship Between Two Legends

Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan share a beautiful friendship, which they have been nurturing for more than three decades. Pronouncing Superstar Rajinikanth as his best friend, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan said he could throw a challenge to any one who could vouch for a similar friendship in the industry. The World Star was overwhelmed by the adulation showered on him by industry folks gathered at the function VijayTV organized to feliciate Kamal Haasan on his golden jubilee year in the industry.
Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, the two eyes of Kollywood, have acted together in 10 films. Of these, three were with eminent director K. Balachander, who had a great hand in shaping their careers.

Lavish in his unstinted praise of Kamal Haasan at the felicitation function by Vijay TV, Rajinikanth said he learned acting watching Kamal Haasan. “Kamal was already a star when I made my debut. He had no ego to act alongside a greenhorn when one word against me would have spelt my ruin. KB sir once chided me for not watching Kamal act when my focus had drifted elsewhere with a cigarette for company,” Superstar recalled the beautiful moments.

In the same mood, Rajinikanth said he had the good sense to find his own way of success as there was no way he could have matched the acting brilliance of Kamal. Sharing a rare gem, Rajinikanth said Kamal’s acting talent floored even Bollywood pioneers Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. ‘If one has to talk of Kamal’s achievements, it could well take two days,” was Rajinikanth’s special and fitting parting shot.

During a function to facilitate Kamal’s fifty years in the film industry, Rajini had reportedly said that all the actors were ‘children of the Goddess of Art’, but ‘Kamal was so special that the Goddess had carried him in her own arms and let the other actors follow her’. This speech of Rajini had indeed received a lot of applause from the audience and the guests and especially Kamal who turned emotional by saying Rajini is his closest friend in the Tamil industry.

While that speech of Rajini would have been forgotten by many, sources say the ‘superstar’ apparently had called a reputed artist to his house to paint what he felt about the description of Kamal with the Goddess of Art. He had expressed his feelings and told his idea of how the painting can be portrayed. Rajini wanted the painting to include superstars from other industries as well and wanted them to be depicted as children.

After a few days, the artist had come up with his version and Rajini was awestruck seeing it. He was so grateful to the artist and he immediately packed the painting and sent it to Kamal’s office. Sources say that after Kamal opened the package he was so happy to see the painting which made him feel so special. Apparently there was a telephonic conversation between the two, where Kamal was reported to have told Rajini, he was moved by this gesture.
The painting has Goddess of Art carrying Kamal in her arms, and superstars Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan , Mohanlal , Kannada superstar Vishnuvaradhan and Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi as kids who are playing and following them. Only photos of two stalwarts of Tamil Cinema hang on Kamal’s walls and they are Sivaji Ganesan and Nagesh. Now he has another painting and that too from a special friend. A tale of friendship that all Tamil fans would love to see it blossom.
It became visible once again on Thursday, at the audio launch of Kumki in Chennai. The Superstar, who was a surprise guest to the event, heaped laurels on the Ulaganayagan. “It is an honour to know that the maker of ‘Lord of the Rings’ has asked Kamal Hassan to direct one film for him. Kamal Hassan has inspired many and will continue to do so,” said Rajnikanth

“When I was recuperating, Kamal Hassan had come all the way to Singapore to meet me at the hospital. But the doctors didn’t allow him, or anyone else to visit me because I had very low immunity. I felt bad and called up Kamal to tell him that I would meet him personally once I return home. When I came back to India, I rang Kamal Hassan and after a few casual conversations, told him how much his visit meant to me.”
